Veterans United passes 1,000 employees nationwide, becoming Columbia's 4th largest private employer.
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Veterans United Home Loans announced today it surpassed the 1,000 employee mark, and now sits at 1,006 nationwide. In Columbia alone it has 719 employees, which makes it the city's fourth largest private employer according to fall 2011 numbers from Regional Economic Development, Inc.
"We really just want to say thank you to each and every one of our employees for what they have built here at Veterans United," said Nate Long, company CEO. "We reached 1,000 employees because of their efforts to enhance the lives of veterans and service members. From Columbia we serve the entire country, and have been able to grow to offices in 22 states that are dedicated to helping military men and women use the VA Loan benefits they have earned through their service."
Of Veterans United's 1,006 employees, 667 call Boone County home. Company employees include accounting, business development, customer service, human resources, information technology, legal, marketing, mortgage and real estate professionals.
"This number of jobs, from a homegrown company, has a broad and significant impact locally beyond just Veterans United," said Michael Brooks, president of REDI. "When we talk about more than 700 local jobs, we are talking about a multiplier effect that grows jobs across all sectors of the mid-Missouri economy. This is great news."
Founded in 2002, Veterans United is the nation's No. 1 dedicated VA lender. It financed more than $1.6 billion in loans in 2011, growing from $1.1 billion in 2010. Its mission is to help veterans and active duty military members take advantage of the home loan benefits earned by their service.
